Braces
We provide a variety of braces for wrists, ankles, and knees (including dial and hinged knee braces) for support of strains, sprains and more serious ligament injuries. These are available for purchase and specialised braces can be ordered.
Crutches/walking sticks
Crutches/walking sticks are available for hire to aid mobility whilst you are restricted with your walking.
Walking/CAM boots
We provide short and long walking boots (‘space boots’) for purchase to provide immobilisation of lower limb fractures. These can be used for walking (if weight bearing is permitted by your doctor), and are easily taken on and off to allow for showering and icing.
There is a fitted air cell within the boot, that can easily be pumped or deflated for comfort and swelling control.
EXOS casting
This is an innovative and revolutionary new casting system for immobilisation of wrists/hands and thumbs, that has largely replaced the need for bulky plaster and synthetic short arm casts. This system is used in the USA for immobilisation and management of upper limb fractures (particularly in the baseball arena). The shell of the cast is heated in a convection oven and then simply moulded to the forearm. The EXOS cast then cools and hardens, to immobilise the upper limb. EXOS casting has largely replaced the need for plaster, similar to what CAM walking or space boots has done for lower limb casting.
EXOS cast can be loosened or tightened as swelling increases or decreases, which means there is no need for re-casting.
If your surgeon/doctor allows you to remove the cast, your EXOS cast can get wet, used for water sports and can be cleaned, dried and simply put back on. This is particularly important if you need to re-Xray or change any dressings following surgery, reducing the expense and need of putting on another cast. This also means no more smelly casts!!
EXOS is ideal for management of children’s arm/hand/wrist fractures as there is no mess and no need to put them under the trauma of a plaster saw to remove the cast. We supply a lockable device on the cast with a key to the parent/guardian to ensure that the cast stays on and is managed by the parent/guardian.
